Round 2 of the NSW State series was held at Wakefield Park on 18th & 19th of April.
We loaded up the RX7 and Paul McKinnon and my self headed down on Friday to do some practice. Luckily we did as we had an alternator problem and had to head into Goulburn to find a replacement. Once we did this we were back out on the track. The car was good and we were ready for qualifying on Saturday morning.
We went out and did 8 laps with a best time of 1.07.9 to put us 3rd on the grid out of a 35 car field. So we were pretty happy with that.
1st race was Saturday afternoon, we grided up on the second row. It was a pretty uneventful race and we came home in 3rd placed behind the RX7 of Ryan Brown and the turbo 120Y of Doug Moss Car was still in one piece and was on the pace.
So Saturday night it was back to the motel to relax and have a couple of beers and get ready for Sunday.
1st race Sunday, we grided up on the second row again. This time we didn’t get such a good start and the Commodore of Ahmed Baghdadi gave us a pretty hefty tap into the first corner. Luckily we didn’t get turned around. I thought there would be damage but fortunately there was none and we were able to keep pace with Doug Moss in the turbo 120Y and was able to make a pass for 2nd place which we held to the finish of the race.
So we were very happy with 2nd place. Our best result to date in the Impound Production Class.
Race 3 we Grided up on the front row next to Ryan Brown. Once again I got a terrible start and the Commode of Baghdadi got a flyer and moved into 2nd place I slotted into 3rd. I tried to make several passes on Baghdadi in the first 2 laps but it was very wide Commodore. On Lap 2 we made contact with our front wheels and the RX7 developed a vibration in the front right of the car.
Although running 3rd I thought it was better to bring the car in rather than risk more damage.
Although we had a DNF in the last race, it was a promising weekend with some good results.
Congratulations to all the other competitors on a great weekends racing.
